Christ Alive! | Christian Testimonies, Stories and Reflections

The kingdom of God is breaking out right in our midst, in our workplaces. You won’t hear about it on the evening network news. You won’t read about it in your local newspaper. But you will hear about it from members of Christians in Commerce. Here are just a few of the stories from the front lines of the workplace.

Christians in Commerce members share their workplace stories, reflections and testimonies of being Christ in the Workplace. Select a category to display abstracts from our ChristAlive Archives.

We rarely have any idea of the full impact of our gifts, no matter how large or small. Most often, we are the planters of seeds, not the reapers of the harvest... Reflect on the gifts God has given you. Do not reflect on whether these gifts are great or small. Instead, prayerfully consider how you can best put each one to use for the glory of God.
What is your level of zeal and spiritual fervor? How can you continue to serve even if those levels are low? We each have our stories of conversion, growth in friendship with God and our relationships with him, our own personal transformations in Christ and God’s great faithfulness. We have firsthand accounts of receiving his power through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and seeing it at work in our lives around us.
There are times when God’s purpose is revealed and other times it is hidden. Investing in daily time alone with him and allowing myself to be transparent with others has helped me to see the Lord work in my life. Jesus rewarded me in a special way one year. I was uncertain as to why I had a desire to drive to Duluth to meet with the CIC men in that chapter. Here is what happened...
The tongue is a powerful instrument. It can be used to build the kingdom up or tear it down. Matthew makes it clear that we will be held accountable for every careless word we speak. I want to focus on two areas of speech: negative humor and controlling our thoughts before speaking.
Do I submit to and trust in my superiors at work? What has the outcome been when I have? During my first year as campus minister, my goal was to support the teachers through reflections and material that would strengthen their background and faith. At the request of a new teacher, I went into her class once a week.
It was after midnight at the airport as my first officer and I closed up the airliner. I could see one of our flight attendants, Angela, standing apart from the others. Earlier that day, she had told me her husband had suffered a heart attack. She feared he would start smoking again in her absence. My suggestion that she just trust him didn’t seem to reassure her.
We know as Christians that we are called to be good stewards. In the CIC prayer we recognize and ask the Father for the help we need to be good stewards of our talents, time, money and possessions he has given to us. These are easy words to say, but it means that nothing is ours, everything belongs to the Father, especially the people he has put in our lives.
A new creation: trying something new, changing, giving up what is comfortable. How easy it is to keep our faith compartmentalized; take it with us to church, to CIC meetings and maybe let it show a bit in our volunteer work. Sometimes our fears get the best of us and prevent us from taking risks and stepping out for Christ.
There are many kinds of thorns – worries, ambition, wealth, recognition, position, possessions and busyness, to name a few. The Roman soldiers placed a crown of thorns on Jesus’ head, but he did not let the pain of them deter him from his mission... Life will always have its demands. Do we let these demands choke out God’s word and presence in us, or do we invite him to join us in their midst?
Jim had owned a construction company for 38 years when he ran into an employee problem which demanded his attention. For some reasons he couldn’t immediately understand, employee attitudes had become negative to the point of working contrary to Jim’s direction and desires. Something had to be done.
