Proverbs 27:17

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Before I was aware of CIC, I’d been looking for a group where I could be accountable spiritually and have a place to grow in the Lord. When first attending WCIC, I was touched by the women’s honesty, placing Christ first in their lives. I immediately felt their acceptance of me as one of them.

Guidance

Ephesians 4:29

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Our WCIC-Santa Cruz Chapter participated in a Saturday morning of renewal following a CIC Annual Conference. After each talk we paired up for an Emmaus Walk to discuss our answers to the questions posed by the speakers.

The Message of the Cross

By: Bill Dalgetty

1 Corinthians 1:17

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

To the Romans and the people of Jesus’ time, the cross was a symbol of dominance, suppression and death.  To the Christian, the cross is a symbol of love, giving of self and the ultimate sacrifice.  St. Paul says the cross is also a symbol of the power and wisdom of God.  God’s power and wisdom are made visible in love, sacrifice and the subordination of our will to his.

Proverbs: 18:12

Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility.

It was the first home game of my senior football season at Notre Dame. The game was nationally televised. It was a time of great pride, inflated egos and high expectations. Many in the sporting world were predicting that the game would catapult one of the two teams to the national championship. It did, but not our team.
