Freedom From Bondage

By: Gary Brown

Luke 23: 34

Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do."

Set aside the physical torture and his death for a moment. Jesus was humiliated, insulted, and treated with a gross injustice. How many of us would be able to endure those things alone and still be able to forgive?

Unforgiveness is living in bondage. The same goes for anger, resentment, bitterness and hate.  For many years I held a grudge against my father for his actions during our childhood. Through the act of forgiveness I learned just how much my Father in heaven loves me. Forgiving my earthly father set me free from bondage.

One of the great lessons of his death on a cross was Jesus’ ability to forgive under the worst possible conditions. If Jesus can forgive even unto death, how can we not forgive those who have insulted us or treated us unjustly?

TAKE THE CHALLENGE: Are you harboring ill feelings toward another? Can you let go and forgive as your Lord forgives your sins?
