The Lord's Favor

Luke 4: 18-19

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

I work as an administrator for a medical group. At one point I learned that an employee needed time off, and may even need to resign, as she was distraught over her pregnancy. She wanted the child with all her heart, but the father was not involved and she’d been told the baby had serious organ problems and would not develop. It was recommended that she abort.

I was very saddened by the news. I called the employee to acknowledge her situation, wished her well, and told her I would pray for her.

After I hung up, I had a strong urge to call her back. I fought it. I didn’t know her well, and was afraid she might report me for overstepping my bounds.

Still, the idea would not go away. So, I called back. “I know you really want this baby,” I said. “Would you be open to coming to my home and being prayed with?” To my surprise, she agreed without hesitation.

My roommate and I ended up praying with her on three different occasions. We never discussed the abortion issue. We simply prayed for healing. She was leaning towards aborting, only because her physicians were pushing it. Each time we prayed, however, she received more encouraging news that the baby was improving. It was very exciting!

Eventually, this young woman did resign, but only so she could stay home and love her newborn, a beautiful baby boy, who was born completely healthy.

TAKE THE CHALLENGE: Is the Lord asking you to take a bold step in reaching out to proclaim his good news to someone in your workplace?
