... I desire mercy, not sacrifice…
Early in my marriage, when my wife would confide in me about a personal situation or problem, I would run down to the street corner and dash into the nearest telephone booth, morphing into Mr. Fix It, Superhero.
Mr. Fix It, Superhero would then offer my wife all sorts of great wisdom and advice. It took me a while to figure out why Mr. Fix It, Superhero's advice and wisdom were not always appreciated. My wife simply wanted compassion.
How often in life do we encounter people who need our love, our compassion, and our mercy and yet we skip over these important parts of our faith walk? Instead, we jump right into giving great advice and wisdom, thinking it more important.
In Matthew chapter nine, the Pharisees chided Jesus about eating with tax collectors and sinners and also for not fasting. Jesus let them know that mercy trumps laws and rules. People don't care how much we know until we show how much we care.
TAKE THE CHALLENGE: When encountering a person in need, do you move through compassion and mercy first, or choose another path?
