Walk Afresh Today

Luke Leonard

Hebrews 13:5

Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.

Many years ago, a friend of mine shared about a personal battle he had one night at about 2:00 in the morning. Hank (not his real name) was in the financial business and responsible for several sizable accounts along with his own family's fortune. Business, the market, and several misguided investment opportunities all led to a serious capital loss, with potentially more damaging news to shortly follow. Hank, who had been a recovering alcoholic for a very long time, found himself that night to be extremely vulnerable.

Racked with personal and professional doubts, Hank was unable to sleep. He left his bedroom and sat on his easy chair in the living room. As he looked up in fear his eyes immediately centered on the liquor cabinet situated directly across the room. The battle began! After all these years, once again he was facing extreme temptations to turn to drinking as the solution to his problems.

But once again, God’s promise to Hank was fulfilled. He did not forsake him. Hank's strong belief in the faithfulness of his loving and forgiving God allowed him to experience victory that night.

Hank realized, though, that the victory he had experienced was for that night. There had been other temptations in the past and there would be more in the future. God proves himself to be faithful to us again and again.

Hank taught me that our walk is daily, as are the victories. We need to walk afresh each day in the promise that he is with us and will never forsake us.

TAKE THE CHALLENGE: What am I struggling with? Where do I need to trust the Lord never to forsake me?
