New Water Well in Uganda begins Flowing in 2019
The village of Kibimba, located in the Southwest part of Uganda, is the latest beneficiary of the generosity of the CIC brothers of the Orange County and Mission Viejo Chapters. Water from a new well began to flow there in early 2019, constructed entirely from donations raised in the Fall of 2018.
Kibimba is a small village with a population of about 400 to 500 people. Its name comes from a type of rice that once was grown in that area. It used to be a large rice growing region, until a commercial rice grower and processor moved its operations and what few jobs there were to another part of Uganda.
The well will save the lives of villagers, because they now have a steady source of clean water. The well was dedicated with a permanent plaque honoring the memory of CIC brother Mike Sullivan. Mike died in 2018, after tireless efforts to raise money for Uganda wells over the last nine years. The plaque in his honor reads in the local language, “Obusinge bwa Mukama Bube nainywe”, which means, May the peace of God reign with you".
